Games in Circuits of Sheol take place in a fully realistic virtual reality environment that’s fully controlled by the AI who’s running the game. They can control everything from the apparent surroundings to individual character powercaps to whatever status effects they want. Everything in the AI environment feels totally real but none of it will result in any actual physical effects outside of the environment.

Characters access the VR environment via a chip in their head that was placed there when they were first brought into the RP. For most games, they’ll get a sort of tingling feeling and a sense of being asked a yes/no question. If they answer yes, they’ll be brought into the game and their body will effectively fall unconscious, so it’s suggested that they sit or lie down first. If they answer no they can continue to go about their day. Depending on the AI, some games might be mandatory and those playing will simply get the tingle without the chance to decline. In that case they’ll have about 30 seconds warning before they’re drawn in. Particularly polite AIs might give advance notice of games before trying to draw anyone in, giving characters a chance to schedule around the game.

The games themselves can consist of anything from drawing pictures to killing people. Basically, anything where there’s some sort of goal or competition involved. They will generally take place over the course of a few hours on one OOC day. Also possible are games where the VR environment is left “open” for characters to access at will over the course of a few OOC days.

Games are played for points which can be traded in for a range of items to improve your character’s life beyond basic survival. There will be several winners for any given game, usually just less than half of the players/teams, although they may be awarded different amounts of points at the gamerunner’s discretion. Games that are harder on the characters or more intense for the players will be worth more points than easier, shorter games. More info on the points system can be found here.

Sheol is a city run completely by sentient robots. However, all the people they are meant to be serving are long since gone, and they haven't had much to do in a very long time...

They had a purpose once. Maybe they built something, or sold something, or cleaned something. Maybe they can move around, maybe they're stuck in place. But whatever their real-world peripherals may be, in the world of VR they can turn into anyone or anything that they please.

The AIs' major function is to run games, but not every AI is required to do so.

Drop options:
₪ Disappear between the cracks of space and time. People may or may not remember you were ever there to begin with. This is the default drop for idles, and recommended for characters who haven't been around long or whose absence would make their canonmates all wig out.
₪ Get sick from a mystery space disease and need to go into quarantined stasis in the skyscraper's medical bay. This is good for temp drops, as they can return once they've been healed by MetaTron.
₪ Die. This is good for permadrops. :)

Drops that are not yet available, but will be in the future:
₪ Save your world and return to it. The mega-happy ending!
₪ Escape to someone else's non-corrupted world. Will be unlocked along with the previous option.
NOTE: Characters can still app from canon that’s had its world “fixed,” and there will in fact be special app options for doing it if you want to play with that. Otherwise you can just assume that timespace weirdness means it can be both fixed from their perspective and not fixed from yours at the same time.

Hiatus options:
₪ Get sick and need to go into stasis (exact same as the drop version, story-wise)
₪ Have your consciousness commandeered by an AI. Don't worry, I'm sure someone will put your body somewhere safe in the interim.
₪ Skip forward in time. No one seems to notice you were gone until you show up again.

CHARACTER APPABILITY

₪ We accept fandom characters, AUs and OCs. However, we do not accept post-game characters. The line between the two is up to mod discretion so try not to go overboard.
₪ Fandom OCs should not have a close relationship to any existing fandom characters.
₪ Duplicates are acceptable if they are from significantly different AUs.
₪ Since the robots are incapable of bringing people back from the dead, you cannot app a dead character. However, you're free to take a character from before they die or from an AU where they survived their wounds somehow.
₪ That said, undead characters are appable, as are any other characters who are dead but somehow still have a conscious physical form.
₪ If you want to app a canon AI without a physical form, however, they can be given a robot body.
₪ At this point in time, you may app up to two characters.
₪ You must wait two weeks after introing a character before apping another.

The first batch of characters will get a big group intro and go through this ICly, but check back to this spot for future batches!

FAQ

Is there a powercap? To a certain extent. Characters should not be able to destroy the environment but otherwise they have a lot of freedom to keep their powers. Basically just don’t be a dick about it and talk things through with other players before you go using powers on them. If you have specific powercap questions, this post is the place to ask them! Powers may be capped (or added to~) during games at the discretion of the gamerunner.

Can I app non-humanoid characters? Yes, in general you can app them exactly as they are. If you have questions about how a specific character would be able to function in the game please let us know and we can work something out.

Can I humanise a non-humanoid character? Not unless you make them an AU. Basically, if there’s no reason for the robots to interfere with your character’s physical form then they won’t. If the character is city-sized or has some sort of unique requirement then we can sort it out on a case-by-case basis.

Can I app a character with an illness? Yes, and you can choose whether the illness is stabilised or healed or accidentally skipped over because it didn’t happen to show up on the scanner.

Is death really permanent? Yes, death outside of virtual reality is really permanent. Inside of virtual reality, characters will experience "death" and then either wake up in their actual body or wake up still in virtual reality at the game runner’s discretion based on the needs of the game.

What’s the IC:OOC time ratio? There isn’t an official one right now. We’re going to be keeping an eye on this and it may change in the future but for now the general idea is that every post should advance time a bit.

Can my character bring their super-cute pet with them? They sure can! As long as it's not an appable character in its own right, your character may have one pet from home.

What about a my soul-bonded headmonster/Persona/daemon whatever? Those are fine, too.

CONDUCT

₪ Treat others the way you would want to be treated! Or in other words, don't be a dick. This is the most important rule!

₪ It should go without saying but things like godmoding and infomoding count as dick moves, as do bashing or bullying other players. If you cannot handle yourself maturely and treat others respectfully, you do not belong here.

₪ Please strongly consider speaking to your fellow players regarding any issues you may have before bringing it to a mod. If a problem cannot be worked out between two parties then mod intervention may be necessary, but in general you are expected to communicate with one another.

₪ That having been said, if you feel that another player is bullying or harassing you please contact the mods at sheol.mods at gmail and we will endeavour to take appropriate steps.

₪ Sex scenes should be fade-to-boning/taken to personal journals.

ACTIVITY

Activity is kept track of in a spreadsheet that must be filled out by the end of a given month. We’ll keep the spreadsheet updated with character names; all you do is fill in the blanks once a month.

Requirements
₪ Two 15+ comment threads or three 10+ comment threads (that’s comments made by you, not in total)
₪ Being an active participant in a game counts as a 15+ thread even if you don’t have 15 comments all in one thread during the game.
₪ If you just apped into the game that month, you don't need to meet the full activity requirement. However, you do still need to check in on the spreadsheet.

Hiatuses - To go on hiatus (or see the IC options for hiatuses) go here
₪ If you know you're going to be gone for more than a week or two, please consider putting your character on IC hiatus for sake of your CR. You don’t need to contact the mods to do this as long as you can still make activity for the month.
₪ If you’re not going to make activity for the month, please email sheol.mods at gmail dot com to tell us you’re taking a month’s hiatus.
₪ Repeated hiatuses within a short period of time may be grounds for idling depending on the circumstances. Obviously, sometimes shit happens and we understand that sometimes it can’t be avoided, but please try to keep us informed.
₪ In principle, if you fail activity without having called a hiatus you may be idled. If you feel there are extenuating circumstances please email the mods.

Tagging
₪ Because of the spreadsheet style, tagging your posts will not be strictly enforced. However, Excel reserves the right to get really whiny if people aren't doing it.
